At the beginning of each year, Larry Fink, CEO of Blackrock, writes two letters, one addressed to the world's CEOs, and another letter addressed to his clients.

This year, in his letter addressed to CEOs, he makes us reflect on what we as humanity experienced during 2020 and how the consequences of the pandemic have been quite unfair.

Job losses, crises for many people, changes in the way we work, move, learn, have access to health systems and more. At the same time, innovative companies that worked to serve, the record acceleration for the creation of vaccines, the business response to racial equality and, above all, the movement to confront climate risk.

He tells us how from January to November 2020, $288 billion was invested in sustainable assets, representing an increase of 96% compared to 2019, and predicts that this represents the beginning of a long but accelerated transition that presents a historic investment opportunity.

In addition to all this, Fink reminds us how it was that during 2020, governments such as China, the United States, Japan and South Korea, made historic commitments to achieve zero emissions, and with the return of the United States to the Paris agreement, 127 governments are considering implementing the same commitments.

It ensures that there is no business model that is not profoundly affected by the transition to a “net-zero” economy.

The company that begins to prepare for the transition to become net-zero will stand out with its shareholders, partners, employees and customers, instilling in them the confidence that they have what it takes to navigate this global transformation, while companies that do not will see their businesses suffer and their customers, shareholders and employees will lose trust in them.

We must begin to inform ourselves to understand the ways in which we can join and not be left behind in taking action. The future depends on this. Let's go back to looking at climate change and let's turn to seeing companies that offer solutions.

Let's build a future for all.
