The Sierra Madre del Sur is notable for its biological and cultural diversity. In the mountainous area of this mountain range, coffee plantations are a tradition, however, some production processes threaten the survival of the crop, the surrounding tropical forest and the planet. This problem is partly explained by the greenhouse gas emissions released along the coffee value chain, which accumulate in the atmosphere, adding to the climate crisis.

Tropical forests, among other forms of vegetation, are an efficient solution for permanently capturing and storing atmospheric carbon, so four coffee farms in the mountainous area of the Sierra Madre del Sur in Chiapas, took an enormous step in caring for our planet and decided to set up a climate strategy that would allow them to manage their forests to produce carbon-neutral coffee.

Toroto and the owners of these lands, with the help of an inventory of emissions and through proper territorial management, are offsetting their emissions through the restoration, conservation and sustainable management of the natural resources of these four farms, who, in addition to generating carbon credits under a compensation strategy insetting, add not only to the well-being of the planet and its people, but to the quality and environmental responsibility of their product.

In the following documentary you will learn about how a forest carbon project is implemented, testimonies and very significant contributions to building a future compatible with life.
